The leather jacket requires careful preparation before it actually goes into the washing machine. Check the care label, and empty all pockets. Brush off the loose dirt. Treat stains with the appropriate remover. Put them in a front-loading machine, set the cycle to Delicate or Hand Washing with cold water, using mild detergent. Put your leather jacket with leather hood in a pillowcase or a laundry bag to reduce friction. Immediately after washing, remove the jacket and do not use the dryer; instead, air dry on a padded hanger or lay it flat on a towel until it is dry. If dry, check for damage and, if necessary, treat the leather. Store properly to maintain its quality.
